JP1 Remotes

I have a URC-7555, URC-7556 and a URC-6440 and I have been using RemoteMaster for many years to get them to do what I want. All under Windows.

Update: I've used both a 7555 and a 6440 and they both work more-or-less OK, but not perfectly.

The problem is with the up/down/left/right buttons. They work fine when navigating the ATV menu and the menu of the apps. However there is a problem when playing content on *some* apps.

Does it support macros on device keys? I use those for source switching.

I think this remote is physically broken. I can't record a macro on to the mute button nor can I learn anything on it.

I tried 994 but I got a double flash when entering the second digit of the EFC which I guess means it wasn't accepted.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if the 7955 or 7980 support macros on device keys? I'm guessing not since they don't have actual device keys just a "devices" key.

If not I guess that just leaves the 1240, 1280 and 2981 as current models with at least four device keys.

I followed that link earlier but they don't ship to the UK.

However on the "chip partner FTDI cable" page there are two other eBay links, one of which does appear to ship to the UK. I'd have to buy 100 but that's OK.

Is there anyone these days selling the cable with the small 2x3 connector already fitted?

I had one from Tommy Tyler years ago but it died so now I'm using the one with six separate connectors held together with insulating tape.

Looks like these come with installed upgrades out of the box. I did a 981 on each of them and now the downloaded .rmir files are identical.

Update: see my post of today. There is a difference between them in that the mute key doesn't work on the 7557 but does on the 7556.

Yes, that works fine, thanks. There is no Home button but I can live without that since a long press of Menu does the same.

That doesn't give me an error when I change the remote type in Remote Master. I'll try it when I can prise the 7556 from my dear wife's hands
