URC-9960 B01 No longer connects via JP1 but works with Modem

RM-IR shows downloading for minutes but no error or completion when I connect it to my URC-9960. After connecting the URC-9960 lights up just like changing the batteries. It has been a few years since I last programmed the remote. It seems it has lost the programing now.

Slow foward resets BD-D5500

Just a word of caution to any Samsung BD-D5500 Blu-Ray owners. The slow foward resets the Blu-Ray player settings. You need re-download your apps, redo netflix signon, and redo any special language or video setup.

The AK59-00123A remote does not have a slow button, but I added the commands anyway ...

I fixed this a while back, but thought I post the answer if anyone has the same problem.

It seems some Sharp LCD TV's emit IR as part of the automatic brightness. This interferes with Motorola VIP 1200 STB that ATT Uverse uses. A simple 3x5 card shielding the STB IR receiver from the TV fixes it.

The remote works fine with the IR signal on every STB I have. However, it does not seem to send RF. I can see the "flying saucer" light up when it controls the other devices (TV,DVD,VCR) near the ATT U-verse box, but not when I send the ATT signals from the 6820.

From what I read on the Web ...

ATT U-verse with an RF-IR extender on URC-6820

Any thoughts on why the RF-IR extender does not work with ATT U-verse?

I have a Next Generation Remote Control Extender RF to IR extender discussed briefly here:

It works fine on 5 other devices, but not with the ATT U-verse STB (Motorola ...

Thanks johnsfine, that is pretty much what I expected. After I little more research, I find IrDA and the IR remotes are not too compatible. This page sums it up http://www.pcremotecontrol.com/irda/irda.htm.

PC digital media remote control

How hard would it be to have a JP1 remote to control a PC with an USB IrDa adapter attached? I would like to watch Divx or Web video on the s-video out on my laptop and control it with a remote.

It seems Streamzap ( http://www.streamzap.com ) sells a device to do that, but I don't want another ...

(think anything that has to have a keymove to put a key on it is likely to be something that is not lit or valid for the current screen, in general this was true on the 9960)

You don't have hidden devices on a 6960 and 9960. Only keys for that device type programed show up, so pressing in a spot ...

Are JP1P and JP1S outdated?

More and more new laptops and some new desktops do not have parallel or serial ports. I wonder if JP1P and JP1S are already outdated.

Looks like the USB version of the JP1 may be the way to go.

I did some checking. The Integrated Circuit from Delcom Engineering, 802300, is suggested to be ...

I found building one was faster than ordering it. I bought one from diygadget and had to send it back - it did not work. Now they are closed for a month or so.

I used the "Building a JP1.x Interface (PDF version)" instructions at http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=3585 ...

Those extra four device keys do exist in the firmware, so you can include a press of one of those device keys in a macro and it will function correctly even though the button doesn't physically exist

I'm not sure about assigning to a hidden device and how to get to it. With ir.exe I show 10 devices for my 6820 and I have 6 devices keys. So I picked the most likely 6 devices to program #1, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8. I left #2, 5, 9, and 10 alone. The AUD device #8 is my TV/DVD 2015.
